You could say Renée Zellweger is a creature of habit. The Judy star is the master of the off-the-shoulder fashion moment, and often accessorizes with an effortless Brigitte Bardot-inspired ponytail and curtain bangs. In fact, this has become her signature red carpet style.
However, a big night like the 2020 Oscars calls for an elevated version of your go-to signature red carpet hairstyle. Inspired by Zellweger's asymmetrical white Armani dress, the Best Actress winner's hairstylist Richard Marin created a low center-parted bun that's a bit sleeker than the looks she's been wearing throughout the 2020 awards season.
"At first we were considering a sleek ponytail, but I was with her in Paris for the fitting of the gown and the line of the neckline made me change direction for what the end look was to be," Marin tells InStyle in an email. "Renee really likes her hair to have a finished appeal. The ponytail or a bun checks all the styling starting points for looks we have done these past few weeks. We adapt the style according to the current dress and the event. The adaptations you'll notice depending on the event is more volume, or no volume at the crown, side part or center part, and loose or more controlled."
Marin created Zellweger's Oscars bun by starting off with T3's Cura Luxe Blow Dryer with the volume setting on and brushed her hair with T3's Paddle Brush in the opposite direction of how it lays. Then, he ran T3's SinglePass Luxe Flat Iron through her blow-dried hair for extra shine.
After twisting Zellweger's hair into the low bun, Marin finished the look off by spritzing Biolage Freeze Fix onto his fingers, touching only the parts of her hair that needed help staying in place for the night.

If you somehow always end up using too much hairspray on your hair, take a cue from Marin and spray it on your fingers instead.
