It’s been three months since Dihaj was announced as Azerbaijan’s representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017; on Saturday, she released “Skeletons”, which she will be singing in Kyiv, Ukraine in May.
The song is much more upbeat compared to the other countries’ songs, which could totally work in Azerbaijan’s favour. It was written by Isa Melikov and Sandra Bjurman; they previously wrote the 2011 winning Eurovision song “Running Scared”, which was sung by Eldar & Nigar.
Tha accompanying music video is dark and creepy, as Dihaj realises she has the ability of x-ray vision. Only, it seems to work on her hands and not anywhere else. She manages to see the bones in her hands, up to her wrists. She constantly looks at her hands throughout the video.

Azerbaijan is one of the newer countries to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest; they debuted back in 2008. Since then, they’ve won the contest once in 2011 with Eldar & Nigar’s “Running Scared”. Having the same songwriters, the country is hoping to win again this year. Last year, Samra with “Miracle” scored 117 points, placing the country 17th. Can Azerbaijan win this year?
The competition is definitely going to be a competitive year. The semi-finals will take place on 9 May and 11 May, with the Grand Final taking place on 13 May 2017. Last year, Jamala won with “1944”, bringing the contest to her home country of Ukraine. It will be held at the International Exhibition Centre in Kyiv. Who will win? Time will tell.
